Legend of Banyuwangi
Long time ago in the east corner of East Java, there was a great kingdom which ruled by a wise King. The King had a brave son named Raden Banterang. He loved hunting.
“I will go hunting in the forest this morning. Prepare the stuff that I need,” said Raden Banterang to his servant.
Raden Banterang and his guards left for the forest. When Raden Banterang was walking alone, he saw a deer crossing in front of him. He chased the deer so fast that he got into the deepest part of the forest. He was separated with his guards.
“Where does the deer go?” asked Raden Banterang when he lost his prey. “I will find it till I get it for real.”
Raden Banterang broke through the bushes and the woods. However, the prey wasn’t found. He arrived at a river which had very clear water.
“Hmm, how fresh this water,” Raden Banterang drank the river water, until his thirst gone. Afterwards, he left the river.
All of sudden, he was surprised by the arrival of a beautiful girl.
“Ha? Is it a beautiful girl? Is she a real human? I doubt that she is a ghost,” Raden Banterang murmured. He made bold to get closer to the girl. “Are you a human or a ghost in this forest?” he greeted.
“I am a human,” answered the girl with a smile on her face. Then, Raden Banterang introduced his self and the girl replied him, “I am Surati from Klungkung Kingdom. I am here because I want to save my self from our enemy. My father had died in order to defend our kingdom.”
Raden Banterang was so surprised. Because of the Klungkung Princess’ suffering, he helped and asked her to go to his kingdom. Soon after their meeting, Raden Banterang married the Princess.
One day, the Klungkung Princess was taking a walk outside of the kingdom.
“Surati! Surati!” called a man in tatters. After looking at the man’s face thoroughly, she realized that the man in front of him was her elder brother named Rupaksa. The intent of Rupaksa’s arrival was to ask his sister to take vengeance because Raden Banterang had killed their beloved father.
Surati told that she settled for Raden Banterang’s proposal because of her moral duty to him. That’s why Surati didn’t want to help her brother. Rupaksa was angry because of her answer. He just gave her a headband. “You should save this headband under your bed,” asked Rupaksa.
Raden Banterang didn’t know about the reunion of Surati and her brother because he was hunting in the forest. When Raden Banterang was in the middle of the forest, suddenly he was surprised by a man in tatters.
“Your Majesty, you are in danger because of a disaster made by your own wife,” said the man. “You can see the evidence. She saves a headband under her bed. The headband belongs to a man who is asked to kill you.” After saying those words, the man in tatters mysteriously disappeared. Raden Banterang went to the kingdom soon and hurried into his wife’s bed. He looked for the headband which was told by the man in tatters.
“Ha! The man is right! This headband is evidence! You plan to kill me by asking help from the owner of this headband!” accused Raden Banterang to his wife. “Is this your reply to me?”
”Don’t blame me. I don’t want to kill you at all, even ask it from a man!” answered Surati. But Raden Banterang stood on his ground that she would bring his life in danger. To avoid it, he wanted to hurt his wife first.
Raden Banterang intended to sink his wife in a river. On the river, he told her about his meeting with a man in tatters when he was hunting in the forest. She also told him about her meeting with a man in tatters as he said.
“The man is my brother. He is the one who gave me a headband,” explained Surati to convince her husband. In the other hand, Raden Banterang still believed that she would hurt him. “You’re Majesty! Open your heart and mind! I can sacrifice my life for your safety. But give me a chance to tell you about the reunion of me and my brother, Rupaksa,” Surati reminded. “He wants to kill you! He asked me to help him but I refused it!” Raden Banterang still not believed in his wife’s words. He even regarded that his wife was lying
“You’re Majesty! If this river water becomes clear and scented, it means that I am not to blame! But if it become turbid and stinky, it means that I am to blame!” exclaimed Surati.
Raden Banterang regarded that his wife’s words was not serious. So, he stabbed her with his keris. Coincide with the killing moment, Surati jumped into the river and then disappeared.
Soon after the accident, a miracle happened. A fragrance was spread up around the river. Raden Banterang was shouting in trembling voice, “She was not to blame! The water is so fragrant!” Raden Banterang regretted his deed. He mourned for his wife’s death and regretted his stupidity. But it was too late.
Since that, the river becomes so fragrant. The Javanese call it Banyuwangi. Banyu means water and wangi means fragrant. Banyuwangi then becomes a name of a city, Banyuwangi.

A Trip to Ajinomoto Factory
It was August 13, 2009 when the trip to Ajinomoto factory begun. I and my father started the trip to Surabaya from Ahmad Yani airport with other Ajinomoto’s distributors at night. From Juanda airport, the Ajinomoto’s agents fetched us to the hotel.
The next morning, August 14, 2009, we departed for Ajinomoto factory from the hotel after having a breakfast in a multicultural food restaurant. I picked a plate of fried rice, a cup of strawberry yoghurt and a glass of orange juice for my breakfast. At 9 o’clock in the morning, we arrived in Ajinomoto factory in Mojokerto, East Java. In the hall, we had a short seminar and gathering of Ajinomoto. We shared anything, the problems, critics, suggestions, and also the history of Ajinomoto. And the next schedule, one of my favorite parts, was having lunch together. Because it was Friday, some men went to the mosque for Jumatan.
The true trip in Ajinomoto factory began at noon after Jumatan. First of all, we visited the control room. I saw many control panels there. The engineers explained how those machines work and how they control them. That was the first time I see a big room fulfilled with many panels and buttons on them. The second part of Ajinomoto factory which we visited was Masako factory. We were brought to a room enclosed by glass. We could watch the employees while they were working like seeing some fish swim in an aquarium. There was frozen flesh in a metal box. The cicerone told us that it needs 28,660 pounds of chicken meat and 6,614 pounds of beef per day to produce Masako. I was so amazed with that amount of flesh.
Next, we moved to Sajiku factory. I smelled the soup aroma when I entered it. As in Masako factory, we watched the making of Sajiku in a room. They mixed the flour with some Indonesian spices and packed it in sachets. And then, we arrived in the last room in Ajinomoto factory, Ajinomoto Packaging Factory. There, we saw Ajinomoto was packed in various kinds of sachet.
We leaved Ajinomoto factory at 3 in the afternoon. Then, we continued the schedule to attend gala dinner in the hotel’s ballroom. It was begun with the history of Ajinomoto and some music shows following. How lucky, Duo Maia and Okky Lukman joined in the show and I took some pictures with them.
Finally, a little jet lag ended my trip to Ajinomoto factory when I arrived in Ahmad Yani airport the next day. It was such a great trip that I’ve ever had.

I (am) Not Stupid Too
I (am) Not Stupid Too (Chinese: 小孩不笨二 Pinyin: xiǎohái bù bèn èr) is a 2006 Singaporean movie released in 2006. This movie which directed by Jack Neo is a satirical comedy exposes the lives, struggles and adventures of three Singaporean youths. They are 15-year-old Tom, 8-year-old Jerry (Tom’s brother) and Chengcai (Tom’s friend) who have an inharmonic relationship with their parents. The movie gets down the lack of parent-child communication.
The movie begins with the lives of Tom Yeo (Shawn Lee), his younger brother Jerry Yeo (Ashley Leong) and their friend Lim Chengcai (Joshua Ang). Tom is indicated as a talented blogger, while 8-year-old Jerry loves to play drama and has the lead role in his school play. Mr. and Mrs. Yeo's (Jack Neo and Xiang Yun) always have busy schedules so that they only have little time to spend with their children, leading to an inharmonic relationship. Without mother, Chengcai was grown by his ex-convict father (Huang Yiliang). Chengcai inherits his father’s skill in fighting.
In daily life, both Mr. and Mrs. Yeo are too busy to care their children. Even Mr. Yeo doesn’t believe with Tom’s ability in repairing his computer. While tutoring his sons, Mr. Yeo tells them that people will pay $500 for an hour of his time. This encourages Jerry to collect money so that his father can come to his first performance.
In the other hand, Chengcai doesn’t have such good communication with his father who advises him to pursue his talent for martial arts. These inharmonic relationships take the youths to do something that they should never do.
Tom and Chengcai join a gang while Jerry steals money to pay for his father’s time. Later, the gangsters whom Chengcai joins into beat him up. His father, who happens to be nearby, tries to protect his son, but suffer head injury after being pushed down the stairs. He is taken to a hospital, critically injured. His father tells Chengcai that he loves him and that he should pursue his talent for fighting as the last words. Chengcai goes back to school and eventually becomes a well-known martial artist.
Mr. Yeo finally understands their children because of the incidents. The Yeo parents and Tom watch Jerry's play. Mrs. Yeo resigns from her job as a magazine editor to give more attention for her children.
This film really is about a simple daily life in a family. It, instead, is about relationships and family dynamics. The director tells the story in a very simple way but so deep in meaning. More than often, parents think that they understand their children, based on the reasoning of I-gave-birth-to-you-so-I-know. But do they really? A child is most unstable at teen years, which is without doubt the most crucial period in the development of the child. A single wrong move by the parents can result in a lifetime of regrets. How well aware are the parents of this fact?
Overall, the film is very light, entertaining, and gives a very deep meaning. It tells us that the most important thing in social life is a good communication. It really is appropriate for the whole family and explores the complexity of family relationships in a simple way. It takes easy to understand this film.
