REVIEW OF THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a wonderful novel that written by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. It was first published in 1886 and has remained immensely popular ever since. The story is about a London lawyer named Mr. Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and Mr. Edward Hyde.
Interpretative Recount
The story is told mostly from the perspective of third party, the lawyer Mr. Utterson. He investigates how the cruel Mr. Hyde, who has trampled a young girl, can get a will from his respectable friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll. Utterson suspect that Mr. Hyde has blackmailed Dr. Jekyll. However, Dr. Jekyll asks Utterson not to bother Mr. Hyde.
Nearly a year later, London is shocked by a horrible murder of Mr. Danver Carew by Mr. Hyde. After that, Mr. Hyde disappears. However Utterson increasingly grows to concern about Jekyll’s arratic behavior. After Jekyll becomes a recluse in his room making strange demands in an unfamiliar voice, Utterson, along with Jekyll’s bitler, break down the doctor’s door.

Evaluation
Although The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was first published in 1886, it is still absorbing, relevant and deeply disturbing in this twenty-first century. It was proved by many movies version made based on this novel.
Evaluative Summation
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a classic mystery story and quite captivating to audiences of all ages. This is a very moving novel with a plot that keeps the reader’s interest. This novel tells us that every person has ‘good’ side and ‘evil’ side. In addition, if we cannot restrain the ‘evil’ side, we will come to bad end. In reality, this book is warning to anyone who reads it and subliminal way the warning is conveyed may be the reason of this book’s popularity.
